Edward Whitman was the final child born to Louisa Velsor Whitman when she was forty. "Edd" was mentally and physically handicapped, probably with Down's Syndrome. He carried a name that tied him to neither the family's nor the country's history. His mother took care of him as long as she was able until he had to be boarded out in the country years before his brother Walt moved into his 328 Mickle Street residence in Camden, New jersey. Eddy required increasingly dedicated care until his death in 1892.
