Obituary
Long Islander
Tuesday shortly after the noon hour, the soul of Mrs. Andrew Van Sise, Sr., passed into eternity. She had long been a resident of Syosset, but the sunset of her life was spent at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. S. Francis Van Sise, of Woodbury. The deceased was born in East Norwich and her maiden name was Miss Sarah Lewis, daughter of Nelson and Mary Van Nostrand Lewis. Her parents were Quakers. When a young woman she married Andrew Van Sise and they lived on Nostrand Avenue, Syosset. They remained in the homestead until shortly before the death of her husband four years ago. Mrs. Van Sise leaves one daughter, Mrs. George W. Jackson, of Huntington, two sons, S. Francis, of Woodbury, with whom she lived and Andrew, of Freehold, N.J., also a foster daughter, Mrs. George Schaaf, of Hicksville. There are five grandsons, two granddaughters and two great grandchildren. She leaves three step-sisters; Mrs. Benjamin Mann, of Syosset, Mrs. Richard Berthlan and Mrs. Fred Boardman, of the city. Funeral services were held at the Van Sise home today (Friday) conducted by the Rev. A.J. Martin of the Methodist Church of Woodbury, and interment followed in Huntington Rural Cemetery.
