In 1780, a group of people from Hopkinton, Washington County, Rhode Island went to Little Hoosic (now Berlin), New York and wrote back to Hopkinton asking for William COON to be sent as their pastor. He is claimed to be the first pastor of the SDB Church in Berlin, Rensselaer County, New York. William COON was listed there in 1790 Census with a large family. He became a prominent citizen of Petersburgh, Rensselaer County, New York. Reverend William was pastor of the 7th Day Baptist Church in Berlin, Rensselaer County. He was a soldier of the American Revolution. He was ordained in the church in 1780.
William and Sarah were 1st cousins.
