Stephen and his brother David started from Rensselaer County, New York for Pennsylvania about 1798-9 arriving at Buffalo in mid-winter where they left their families, Stephen pushed on through the wilderness accompanied by his son, Sheffield to, what was later called, Conneaut Township in 1801.
