Obituary
John W. Toot, 87, of Pine, died Oct. 21, 2003. He was born Jan. 23, 1916 in Deming, N.M., and was raised in Mesa.

Mr. Toot was co-owner and operator of the Punkin Center Store from 1942 to 1948.

Upon moving to Mesa, he joined the Mesa Fire Department, retiring as captain after 23 years.

Mr. Toot and his wife, Dot, moved to Pine, where he served on the Pine-Strawberry Volunteer Fire Department as assistant chief for 20 years.

He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He loved his family, and was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His legacy is a lifetime of quiet service to community, family and his fellow man.

He is survived by his wife, Dorthella Toot of Pine; son, Robert Toot of Globe; daughters, Barbara Larsen, Shirley Shill and Donna Bishop, all of Mesa; brother, Don Toot of Payson; 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pine Ward, followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m.

Interment will be in Pine Cemetery.
