Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, David Ivans McOmber, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2003 at the Mt. Timpanogos Temple of a heart attack.
He was born January 24, 1923, in Oakley, Idaho.
He grew up in Pocatello, Idaho on a dairy farm.
He loved the fields and animals.
He attended Pocatello High School and was active in numerous school activities.
He was a star athlete and medaled in track and field events.
While at Utah State University he was a track champion and received All-Conference honors.
He graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering and a Secondary Education teaching certificate for drafting and industrial arts.
He entered the military and served as a Master Sergeant and drill instructor.
He trained numerous service personnel during World War II, and finished as an officer.
He began his career teaching in the Sevier School District, and then went on to the Granite, Wasatch and Alpine School Districts.
He also was an instructor at Brigham Young University in home construction.
He was also self-employed as a building contractor, and built many upscale homes in various locations in Utah.
He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was an example to all on how to give Christ-like service.
He had a great love for temple service which he did for 15 years, starting at the Provo Temple.
He was a member of the Holladay Rotary, Provo Kiwanis, the Sons of Pioneers of Utah and he was also active with the Family Literacy Centers of Orem.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel, eight children: Val David (Kenna) McOmber, Santa Rosa, California; Marilyn M. (Joel) Skousen, Orem, Utah; Julee Ann McOmber, Mesa, Arizona; Mark Baird (Cathy) McOmber, Clovis, California; Rebecca Rae (Jed) Miner, Orem, Utah and Paul Delos (Kim) McOmber, US. Embassy, China Beiging; Solin Kwak, Korea; Edel (Alan) Lambson, Guatemala: 27 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; two brothers and one sister; Velma McOmber Teerlink, Sacramento, California; Winston I. McOmber, Salt Lake City, Utah and Adrian S. McOmber, Hayward, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Calvin D., George E., Arthur F. and Ferryle B. McOmber.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 7, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cascade Stake Center, 450 East Center Street, Orem, Utah under the direction of the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home of Orem, Utah.
Friends may call at the Stake Center Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to service.
Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
