William V Macoubrie was killed during the Civil War in the Battle of Chaplin Hills, Chaplin Hill, Kentucky. According to documentation of this battle, he was a flag bearer in the battle and was the first killed, dropping to the ground but never letting the flag touch soil.
Records are available which show William V Macoubrie served at Camp Dennison, Ohio in June 1861. At the time he was 27 years of age. He served as both Private and Sergeant in Company G, 3 Regiment, Ohio Infantry.
