Rex Eldon Goad was the first child of Clyde Eldon Goad and Evelyn Walker. He was born 1 Nov 1920 in Driftwood, Arkansas. Driftwood is currently a ghost town. He had a brother Eugene and sister Laverne. The family had hard times and became itinerant sharecropper in Arkansas and Oklahoma during the dust bowl years. The father fell to peer pressure and would waste the family's earnings on alcohol. As a kid, Rex and his siblings never had a Christmas tree or toys. Somehow, they managed to save a little money and purchase a farm in Checotah, OK in the 1930s where Rex and his siblings went to school. One of Rex's teachers was very kind to him and came to eat supper at his parent's house one night, and it was dark when they finished. He had to walk her home and stayed all night on her sofa when he was about 9 years old. Rex quit school after the 10th grade and joined the army. He was sent to the Pacific front during WWII. He was a truck driver. His group moved onto Pacific Islands after the famous Pappy Boington had bombed them. Rex married Virginia Somebody in the early 1940s and had one son, Jerry Goad. Rex and Virginia divorced shortly after the war. Rex met his new wife, Carol Lucille Rainer , in 1946 with the help of his sister Laverne who worked with Carol Rainer at the box factory. They had a whirlwind romance and ran off to Joplin, MO to elope. Carol already had 2 daughters, Carolyn and Donna, and together Rex and Carol had 3 more children: Elaine, Rex, and Tim Goad. Rex began working at Pub;ic Service of Okla in 1950 and stayed there until his death in 1982. Rex and Carol raised their children in the First Christian Church of Sand Springs, OK.
