WILLIAM W. FERGUSON,
Representative from the first district of Wayne county (Detroit), was born in the city of Detroit, May 22, 1857. He was educated at the Detroit high school, graduating from that institution in 1876. While attending school he also learned the printer's trade, in which occupation he was engaged until 1890. His present occupation is that of real estate dealer. In politics he is a Republican, is of AfroAmerican descent, and the first of his race elected to the State Legislature; was a member from the city of Detroit for the term of 1893-4, and elected to that of 11895-6 the general legislative ticket of that city, receiving 21,583 votes to 17,774 for James A. Kier, highest Democrat opponent.
