Obituary:
Ida Jean Brashier, 89, passed away on Dec. 20, 2007, after a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 18, 1918, in Courtland, Kansas, to Notia (Garman) Kier and Edward Lawrence Kier. During World War II, she moved to Wichita to be a riveter in the construction of B-29s. It was there that she met Robert Brashier, an Army sergeant from Texas, at a dance. They were married on August 28, 1944, and raised six children, including Dawn Bellamy of Rio Rancho; Robert Brashier Jr.; Jeanne Tow and husband, Gary, of Omaha; Ed Brashier and wife, Debbie, of Cascade, Idaho; Tom Brashier and wife, J.C., of Luther, Okla.; and Roberta Hoard and husband, James, also of Omaha. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, including Ed Smith, his wife Kim and sons Ryan and Matthew of Rio Rancho; 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Jean, as she liked to be called, was a resident of the Rio Rancho area for 15 years, living with her daughter, Dawn. She was employed as a medical researcher at West Mesa Health Care from 1993-95.
Jean was a participant at High Desert United Methodist Church in Rio Rancho and enjoyed visits from Pastor Bob Guido. She was known for her love of going fast, whether it was in her 1968 yellow Camaro or riding a go-kart with her great-grandsons. She had many stories of managing a toy store in Houston; of raising her children; and of her chihuahua, Baby Doll. She enjoyed painting and crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. Her quick wit and humor were always with her and she will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990, and her brother, John Garreth Kier, in 1976.
Services will be at the Covenant Church in Courtland, Kans., with burial following at the Courtland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to High Desert United Methodist Church, 4200 Meadowlark Lane SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124. Tibbits-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville, Kans., is in charge of arrangements.
