Married: Clara Belle Nicholls November 22, 1939 in Liberty Borough, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

George D. Kier Sr., of Gettysburg, departed this life February 26, 2009 in Fairfield.
He was the son of the late James Nelson and Pearl R. (George) Kier.
Mr. Kier was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army's Company A, 175th Inf. Regt., 29th Div. Mr. Kier was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart and had earned the rank of Sergeant.
He retired after 29 years of service with the C & O Railroad's Pittsburgh Office, where he served as a mobile agent. George was a member of the National Association of Retired Veteran Railroad Employees and was a life member of the Spring Hill, FL VFW. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gettysburg.
His wife, the late Clara Belle (Nicholls) Kier, to whom he was married for 66 years, died in 2006 and he is survived by a daughter, Noreen K. Acheson and husband, Dave of Fairfield; a son, George D. Kier Jr. and wife Lou of Lewisville, TX; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Pearl Fritz of McKeesport and Ada Johnson of Golden Valley, MN.
He was also predeceased by two brothers, Charles E. and James N. Kier.
Interment was with full military honors.
