STURGIS - Mass of Christian Burial for Florence Esther Keffeler Schuster Bedsaul, age 97, of Sturgis will be 10:00AM, Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at St. Martin's Chapel in Sturgis with Father Arnold Kari as Celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Sturgis.
Visitation will be Monday at Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home in Sturgis from Noon until 7:00pm with a rosary scheduled for 7:00pm. Memorial may be directed the St. Aloysius Cemetery or the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Mrs. Bedsaul passed away at her home on Thursday, January 15, 2004.
Florence was born to parents Joseph and Viola (Hickey) Keffeler on a farm near Le Mars, Iowa on March 14, 1906. They moved to Sturgis, South Dakota in 1909. Florence graduated from the 8th grade at St. Martin's Academy and attended the public high school for three years.
She was united in marriage to Joseph Schuster on July 3, 1924. They couple made their home in Chamberlain, South Dakota for eleven years before returning to Sturgis. They established and ran the Sturgis Laundry for fifteen years. Joe died in 1945.
The couple had three surviving children, Mary Madell Schuster Piekkola McDonagh and her husband William of Sturgis, LaVerne Schuster and his wife Bernice of Anaheim, CA, Hazel Schuster Malmbeck of Kaneohe, HI, a sister, Clara Keffeler McNabb of Davenport, IA, 8 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren.
Florence married Roby Bedsaul on August 13, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Surviving are 6 step grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Florence was active with the World War I Veterans Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, St Francis Alter Society and the Senior Citizen Organization. She was a volunteer at Ft Meade VA Hospital and at the Massa Berry Hospital for many years.
