Notes for JESSIE LOUISE WHITMAN:

Daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Martha "Mattie" (Mitchell) Whitman.
Jessie had originally been called "California".
Born: June 17, 1863 in Unknown.
Died: 1957 in Roswell, New Mexico.
Buried: Block 24, Lot 2154; Bellefontaine Cemetery, Saint Louis, Saint Louis County, Missouri.

Lived in Saint Louis until the late 1940s, when, having broekn her hip in a fall, she went to live with a Mrs. Rudolph J. Blome, a private-duty nurse she had met in a rest home. The Blome family moved to Roswell, New Mexico in 1956. They brought Jessie Whitman along. Now in her ninties, she rode west in a station wagon fitted out with a mattress. She adpated easily to New Mexico in the the fifites, where "the beauttiful days and leisurely living" please her, according to her nurse.
