Obituary in the "Long Islander"
Susan E., wife of Alonzo P. Whitson, former Highway Superintendent of the Town of Huntington, passed away Saturday evening last. She had been ailing for some two years, but death came suddenly at the last, her trouble being a weakness of the heart. Mrs. Whitson was born at Melville, January 15, 1870, the daughter of James E. Baylis & Phebe A. Jarvis, and some twenty years ago she was married to Mr. Whitson. Besides a mother and husband, she leaves three children, two daughters, the Misses Esther & Mildred Whitson, and one son, Charles R. Whitson. Three brothers also survive, F. Allison Baylis, of Melville, and Arthur L. and J. Irving Baylis of Woodbury. The funeral services, held at her late home Tuesday afternoon, were very largely attended. They were conducted by the Rev. A.S. Hagarty, of the Farmingale and Lower Melville Methodist Churches, she being a member of the latter church. Interment was in the churchyard near the Methodist Church, a short distance to the south of the Whitson home. Mrs. Whitson was a woman of sweet, loveable disposition, and had many warm friends.
