It states in USA that Colin was born at Schenectady, N.Y., USA
"Campbell, Colin (1787-1853) was born at River Beaudette, Lake St Francis, in Glengarry, Cana da, on November 25, 1787, the son of Alexander Campbell, a United Empire Loyalist, who repres ented Cornwall in the first legislature of Upper Canada, and his wife Magdalena Van Sice. H e entered the service of the North West Company as a clerk in 1804, doubtless through the inf luence of his elder brother, John Duncan Campbell. He spent most of his life in the Athabask a district. In 1813 Daniel Williams Harmon met him at Dunvegan; and he was described as an accountant in the Athabaska in 1816. He was taken over by the Hudson's Bay Company in 1821, and he remained in the Athabaska district until 1846. In 1828 he was promoted to be chief trade r; but he never attained the rank of chief factor. After several years spent in charge of th e Kenogamissee district he retired from the fur trade on June 1, 1853; and a few months late r he died, on November 9, 1853, at the Red River Settlement. He married Elizabeth, daughter o f the Hon. John McGillivray."
