Obituary
Rachel Ann Baird McOmber Wignall passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at her home in Provo at the age of 85. Rachel was the daughter of Abner and Hazel Twede Baird and spent her childhood on the family farm on West Mountain near Payson, Utah. She attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah, where she met and married her husband, David McOmber.

She graduated from USU in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education which became her passion throughout her life. She taught in Cache, Logan and Murray School districts and then developed and operated a highly successful pre-school in Provo for 20 years. Her crowning legacy was the production of McOmber Beginning Reading Books. She was also instrumental in setting up Literacy Centers primarily throughout Utah County, helping many struggling children and adults to become successful readers. She was the recipient of the Smoot Outstanding Citizen award for her work with Family Literacy. She taught at BYU Academy for Girls, and loved serving at the MTC and as a Provo Temple Worker.

Rachel's beloved husband, David passed away in 2003 after 55 wonderful years together. In 2008 she married Bill Wignall who was an invaluable support and companion during her final years. She inspired many with her positive attitude and love of people. She has 28 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Bill and her six children: Val (Kenna) McOmber, Marilyn (Joel) Skousen, Julee (Don) Skinner, Mark (Cathy) McOmber, Becky (Jed) Miner and Paul (Kimille) McOmber; her brother Fred (Sara) Baird, her sister Ruth (Mark) Bartholomew. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Alan Baird.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Edgemont Stake Center, 303 West 3700 North, Provo. Friends and family may call on Friday, June 24, 2011, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, and again Saturday morning at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
