Son of Jacob & Mary Dillon; orphaned at an early age and came to live in Cold Spring Harbor, Suffolk County; learned shoemaker's trade under Townsend Burr; made a number of whaling voyages out of Cold Spring Harbor, his final two were aboard the bark "Alice" 1858-1860; married Charlotte O. Painter - 4 September 1858; lived for a time on a farm in Half Hollows, Suffolk County; drafted into the Union Army during the Civil War; settled at Huntington and went into the shoemaking business with "Uncle Billy" Pearsall; later he owned his own shop at Huntington Harbor {Halesite}; worked as a baker for Philip Pearsall; worked as a night watchman since 1884; member of Huntington M. E. Church; went to the Huntington Social Club to turn off the gas; found on the rug by W. V. Tuttle; he "complained of feeling so bad in his chest"; died &qout;from heart failure while on duty" as night watchman.
