Margaret "Peg" Katims, 77, of Quechee, Vt. died on Saturday, November 14, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

She was born in New York City to William and Margaret Collins and married Ronald Katims on June 21, 1958. The Katims lived in Scotch Plains for 30 years, moving to Quechee in 1986.

They spent many winters in Puerto Rico and began wintering in Stuart, Fla. in 2006.

Peg was a graduate of the State University of New York in Cortland and received a Masters in Education degree from St. John's University in New York.

She was board chairwoman of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Recreation Commission and the swimming director of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA. Peg was director of guidance at St. Patrick's High School in Elizabeth.

In Vermont, Peg volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem in the Vermont Family Court and as a board member of Emerge in White River Junction.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, Ronald, are three children, Anne Kiernan and her husband, Michael, of Melrose, Mass., Robert and his partner, Emily, of Burlington, Vt. and James and his wife, Mona, of Edison.

Peg was a devoted grandmother to Christopher, Sean and Colin Kiernan, Julien LeClair Katims, Michael and Julie Katims; sister to William and his wife, MaryJo, of Bel Aire, Md. and aunt to Joseph, Kathleen, Mary Beth and Barbara.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, November 19, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 1571 Martine Avenue in Scotch Plains. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.
