Jimmie Gene Kier, was called to Heaven October 2, 2009 at his home in Benkelman, Nebraska, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jimmie was born September 19, 1935, in Idalia, Colo., to Charles Edward and Lyle Lorraine (Smith) Kier.

On April 30, 1955, he married Vica Jean Ellis and they moved to Montana for a short time before returning to the Benkelman area. In 1969, they established their farm northwest of Benkelman. He was active in farming for more than 40 years, as well as the construction of steel buildings for Chief Industries for 39 years. They retired in 1996, and moved to their home in Benkelman.

He was an active member of his community. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Wheat Growers Association, and served on the Benkelman COOP Board. He was also a dealer for Midwest Seeds and a member of the Benkelman City Counsel for five years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lyle Kier; brothers, Richard, Wes and Jerry; infant brother, Billie; and one granddaughter, Adrienne.

Survivors include wife, Jean Kier of Benkelman, Nebrasaka; son, Kim Kier of Parks, Nebraska; daughter, Lona Custer and husband, Kelly of Parks, Nebraska; son, Jeff Kier of Black Hawk, South Dakota; daughter, Tawnia Nichols and husband, Kelly of Benkelman, Nebraska; brother, Jack Kier and wife, Aloha of Max, Nebraska; and a host of relatives and friends.

BENKELMAN -- Jimmie Gene Kier, 74, died Friday (Oct. 2, 2009) at his home in Benkelman, after a battle with cancer.

He was born Sept. 19, 1935, at Idalia, Colo., to Charles Edward and Lyle Lorraine (Smith) Kier.

On April 30, 1955, he married Vica Jean Ellis and they moved to Montana for a short time before returning to the Benkelman area. In 1969, they established their farm northwest of Benkelman. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. (MDT) at the Benkelman Community Building (formerly the Friends Church) with Marcine Farmer, PMA, officiating. Interment will follow services at the Benkelman Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Forch Funeral Chapel of Benkelman today until 7 p.m.
