On 3 Aug 1889, Josiah and Anne & children Lewis, Irvine, Isaac, Mabel, Sarah, Wilford & Carrie were granted a certificate transferring their membership to Platte Valley Monthly Meeting, Merrick County, Nebraska, from Spring Creek Monthly Meeting, Mahaska County, Iowa. Josiah went broke in Nebraska. He moved back to Iowa and worked with a grain mill at Kalona, Iowa. When the mill burned down he moved to Washington, Iowa, where he dealt in livestock.

Rollo completed two years of college in Fremont, Nebraska. By 1899 he was working as a railway postal clerk out of Cody and Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Huntley, Montana. In 1911, he homesteaded 40 acres near Huntley, dairying and raising wheat and vegetables. In 1919 he moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where he took classes in automobile electric systems and set up shop. In 1928 he and his wife moved to Everett, Washington.
